Online and Face-to-Face

We offer our MSN Nurse Practitioner program courses in a hybrid face-to-face and online format, while intensive and clinical days are scheduled on site in various healthcare settings.

With a focus on the Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) role to meet the growing demand for primary care providers, our program emphasizes advanced health assessment, pathophysiology, pharmacology and health promotion. We combine online coursework with intensive on-campus sessions and traditional, hands-on clinical experiences in different healthcare environments, ensuring you can develop competence in your advanced practice skills.

Required Background Check

The Texas Board of Nursing (TBON) requires that newly admitted nursing students complete fingerprinting and a criminal background check to gain clearance before enrollment. Background checks protect and promote the welfare of the people of Texas by ensuring each person holding a nursing license is competent to practice safely. Please note, the background check is for the BSN only.

If you are enrolled or planning to enroll in East Texas A&M University’s Department of Nursing and you have reason to believe you may be ineligible for the RN License, you may petition the Texas Board of Nursing for a declaratory order as to your eligibility. Neither the University nor its faculty can answer this question you.

How Do I Get Started?

If you have not already done so, complete the Request Information form. You will be connected with your enrollment specialist, who can answer your questions. When you’re ready, go ahead and follow the steps below to apply.

Admissions Requirements

To be considered for admission, you must first meet the following criteria.

  • Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree in nursing from a regionally accredited institution and a nationally accredited nursing program with a minimum overall GPA of 2.75 and minimum 3.0 GPA for the last 60 hours.
  • Applicants must also hold an unencumbered, unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Texas or a compact state.
  • This program is not currently open to International Students.

Deadlines

The application deadline for fall admission is August 1.

  • Select “Family Nurse Practitioner, MSN” as your “Program.”

Submit the following documents after you receive an application confirmation email.

Your Graduate Coordinator

Submit a letter detailing your reasons for pursuing the master’s degree in nursing, including your professional goals.

Submit a resume or curriculum vitae (CV) which includes your academic and professional history and achievements.

Request three individuals to complete the recommendation form attesting to the applicant’s readiness and academic performance.
