Alum Named Southlake Fire Chief

A Lion alum with more than 30 years of experience in fire and emergency medical services will now lead the Southlake, Texas Fire Department. Shannon Langford, a 2018 graduate of Texas A&M University-Commerce (now East Texas A&M University), begins his role as fire department chief on May 5. In addition to his master’s degree in Management from East Texas A&M, he also completed the Fire Service Chief Executive Officer program at Texas A&M's Texas Engineering Extension Service.
Langford began his career as a paramedic in 1992 and has served in multiple roles across the state of Texas, including several years as a flight paramedic. In addition to his life-saving duties, he served as an adjunct instructor in a paramedic training program at Brookhaven College (now Dallas College Brookhaven) for seven years.
Southlake Fire Department serves the city’s more than 30,000 residents. It maintains an ISO 1 ranking by the Insurance Service Office, a ranking based on a nationwide classification system that reflects the community’s fire protection capability for property insurance rating purposes. It is one of just eight Texas departments with an ISO 1 ranking and accredited status through the Center for Public Safety Excellence.
